In a historic collaboration of Eastern and Western traditions, China’s prestigious Shanghai Symphony Orchestra brings two premium concerts to the Festival as part of its landmark Australasian–Southeast Asian tour.

Led by its renowned Music Director and Conductor Long Yu — hailed by The New York Times as an “über-maestro” and “the most powerful figure in China’s classical music scene” — Shanghai Symphony Orchestra is Asia’s oldest orchestra and a major force behind China’s classical music prestige over three centuries.

Exclusive to the Festival leg of the tour, the Orchestra will perform not once but twice in Tāmaki Makaurau. Selections from Elliot Leung’s luscious Chinese Kitchen: A Feast of Flavours — a vibrant ten-movement centrepiece inspired by signature Chinese dishes — will feature both nights and be a symphony to savour.

A release date for presale tickets to concerts on 19 & 20 March 2026 will be announced soon.  Join the waitlist here to secure your place in the queue.

$2.50 per hour to a max of $12.50 on weekends and a $12 flat rate for weekday evenings at The Civic car park. Find out more
