Holding The Pen While They Move Our Hands Negotiating The Writing Of Whānau and Tūpuna Stories.

Te Pupuri i te Pene nā Rātou ka Whakakori i ā Tātou Ringa – Te Tuhi I ngā Kōrero ā-Whānau, ā-Tūpuna anō .

In telling whānau and tūpuna stories, Māori writers can feel an immense pressure to please everyone, with individual words often presumed to be words of the collective. How then is it possible to pull individual stories from the whāriki of the pūrākau? And how do writers honour their tūpuna through their writing? Join Ockham NZ Book Awards 2020 Jann Medlicott Acorn Fiction Prize winner Becky Manawatu (Aue-), author and editor Ross Calman (He Pukapuka Tātaku i Ngā Mahi a Te Rauparaha Nui / A Record of the Life of the Great Te Rauparaha), poet and musician Ruby Solly (Tōku Pāpā) in conversation with Arihia Latham, as they investigate these questions in the context of their work.

Ka tuhia ana ngā kōrero ā-whānau, ā-tūpuna anō, tērā pea ka rangona e te ringatuhi Māori te taimaha rukiruki o te whai kia koa te katoa, i te kaha whakapaetia o ngā kupu a te takitahi hei kupu nā te kāhui. Nā reira ka pēhea e taea ai te tō mai he kōrero takitahi nō roto i te whāriki o te pūrākau? Ka pēhea hoki tā ngāi ringatuhi whakahōnore i ō rātou tūpuna mā roto mai i ā rātou tuhinga? Piri mai ki te toa o te taonga Ockham NZ Book Awards 2020 Jann Medlicott Acorn Fiction Prize, ki a Becky Manawatu (Aue-), rātou ko te ringatuhi, ko te kanohi hihira hoki, ko Ross Calman (He Pukapuka Tātaku i Ngā Mahi a Te Rauparaha Nui / A Record of the Life of the Great Te Rauparaha), ko te ringa toikupu, ko te ringa pūoru hoki, ko Ruby Solly (Tōku Pāpā) i a rātou e kōrero ana me Arihia Latham, nō rātou ka wānanga i ēnei pātai ki te horopaki o ā rātou mahi.
