Kiwi-Italian Gianpaolo (Giapo) Grazioli, chef and owner of Auckland's iconic ice cream store Giapo, has collaborated with the quintessential social summer drink, Aperol Spritz, to craft his latest mind-blowing masterpiece.
Born of a mutual love of the authentic Italian classic aperitif, this latest creation to truly reflect the art of Aperitivo time and what that means for wife Annarosa and Giapo himself – which is simply bringing people together and celebrating the joy of life.
What a wonderful concept to bring to life!’ Aperitivo is Italy’s classic take on happy hour, the time from afternoon to early evening. This ritual is signified by sharing an Aperol Spritz with friends, while enjoying cicchetti or antipasto with cheese, olives, cured meats and artisan breads.
Husband and wife duo Giapo and Annarosa spent countless hours crafting the masterpiece which they describe as an ‘Aperitivo in a cone’.
The creation has an Aperol flavoured sorbet base and is embellished with elements that you would typically see on an antipasto platter – with a Giapo twist.
The signature cone is topped with white chocolate covered potato chips for the perfect sweet and savoury crunch, and olives are added for an extra nod to its Italian heritage.
Finishing off the creation is a chocolate button with the Aperol Spritz logo. Aperol recently toasted to 100 years of the iconic brand and is recognised globally for sparking joyful connections and creating memorable shared experiences.
The Giapo x Aperol Spritz Collaboration is available until the end of February 2020 at the Giapo store (12 Gore Street, Auckland Central 1010) for $19.00 for the full chip cone, or $13.50 without the chip cone.
