Auckland’s city centre became a canvas for over 50 art and light installations during May for the first ever City of Colour event.
From May 6-22, laneways, squares, streets, tanks and trees in heart of the city and K Road were adorned with sculptures, space cubes, light displays, projections, artworks and more.
This was the result of a partnership between Heart of the City and Auckland Council, and a large number of other city centre partners, with a vibrant art programme co-curated by award-winning designer Angus Muir and Auckland Council’s city centre place activation principal, Barbara Holloway. Installations included a 5m high illuminating sculpture in The Viaduct, a colourful kinetic canopy of ribbons in Vulcan Lane and a Forest of Light in Khartoum Place, with the full line-up making for a great trail experience for visitors to embark on to see it all.
