From a street festival and light installations to free music performances and theatre, the 2018 programme offers so many ways to come together and celebrate the start of the Māori Year.

Vector Lights for Matariki Festival 2018
1 - 22 July, Auckland Harbour Bridge

Vector Lights joins Matariki Festival to celebrate the Maori New Year with an incredible light show. Gather with family and friends as the shining lights and sounds of nature take you on a journey; reflecting on the past, celebrating the present and looking ahead to the future.

Matariki on the Waterfront
20 - 22 July, Silo Park

Join friends and whānau to celebrate Matariki on the Waterfront. Experience and enjoy music, workshops, games, kai and much more.

Pou Rama
30 June - 22 July, Aotea Square

Inspired by pouwhenua (land symbols of support), this series of free-standing light structures represents creative wairua (inspiration) generated from te taiao (the environment). The whakairo designs express cycles of creativity and connections to place. 

InMotion Matariki
21 July, Silo Park

Touch Compass, New Zealand’s leading inclusive performance art company, invites Aucklanders and their families to decorate their bicycles and wheelchairs and enjoy fun and informative performances as they meander along the waterfront.

Dance the night away under the Matariki stars while enjoying a stellar line-up of local music talent, including Annie Crummer, Che Fu, Ria Hall, Tawaroa Kawana, Waxed Crew Collective and more. 

Te Taumata Kapa Haka - Wahine Toa
14 July, ASB Waterfront Theatre

Don’t miss captivating, live performances by some of the best kapa haka in Aotearoa. This year’s showcase will highlight the power of wahine in a cultural context.
